Porsche Breaks Record at 2010 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

The annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb took place this weekend in Colorado and a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car smashed last year’s record in the Time Attack 2WD class. Driven by Jeff Zwart of Woody Creek, Colorado, the car completed the 12.42 mile course in 11:31:095, breaking the previous record by 38 seconds. Zwart not only broke the 2009 class record but took the car faster than all but five of the entire field – three Unlimited Class and two Open Wheels cars, all with 600-horsepower. The 2010 Porsche Panamera and 2011 Porsche Cayenne both boast a new auto "start stop" feature which essentially turns the engine off ever so smoothly when in a stopped position. This particular feature has already become popular in upscale yet fuel-efficient vehicles in Europe and Porsche is now the first automaker to deploy this green feature in U.S. non-hybrid vehicles. While start-stop doesn’t necessarily boost fuel economy ratings, it does have the potential to reduce fuel consumption (and emissions) by five percent or more. 2011 Porsche Panamera Announced with Brake Energy Recuperation System

Starting in August, Porsche will offer a new brake engery recovery system in all of the V8 Panamera models. By generating electrical power from the brakes, the energy recovery system is able to charge the car's battery. As a result, the technology also keeps the alternator current from having to charge the battery, which also provides more energy to the engine. Working in unison with the option of low roll-resistance, all-season 19-inch tires, the Panamera Turbo's fuel economy drops down to 11.3 liters/100km. Performance Tires

All of the most sophisticated engineering can be negated by worn or improper tires. Porsche specifies exactly what they require in tires. The tire manufacturers acknowledge this by putting an "N" designation on their tires for Porsche.
At Porsche of North Houston we are so serious about proper tires that we sell them for the lowest possible prices. There are no short cuts when it comes to tires. It just doesn't make sense to let tires get down to the wear bars. Those grooves are there to channel water. The miser who pushes for those few extra miles is flirting with disaster.
One of our clients recently had a flat in Mississippi, and had to replace a tire at the local dealership. A phone call to us confirmed that the dealer was offering a fair price. In fact the price was fair, but it was one hundred dollars more than we charge.

Dogwood Canyon

Dogwood Canyon, a short drive from Big Cedar Lodge, is a pristine valley laced with history, beauty, and wildlife. A stream fed by waterfalls meanders through the valley. It is crisscrossed by unique bridges, and dotted with trout ponds. Eagles make it their home for the winter feeding on the trout.

The ridge beyond the canyon is home to elk, bison, and longhorns. They actually come up to feed along side the tram that takes you on this mystical tour. The tour is concluded by a cookout complete with Black Angus burgers.

This year Dogwood Canyon is intended only for first time participants. The others will be relegated to piloting their Porsches and dining at the Ozark Cafe, another of our favorite stops. Perhaps the only thing that can rival the beauty of the canyon is the parking lot after each Porsche is safely positioned.

The prerequisites for the Ozark Tour (a road trip for your Porsche) are: you must take your Porsche, you must drive in a prudent manner, and you must have fun. And, yes, the latter two requisites can coexist.

Motor Trend compares the Boxster S

The June 2010 Motor Trend actually starts their article by declaring Porsche the winner. They go on to say that the other three were competing for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The superlatives were non-stop on the Boxster S.
"The Boxster S is the very best roadster you can get for the money." "But in this contest of speed, style, and top-down dominance, it wasn't even close." "So engaging to pilot, this car epitomizes automotive euphoria." Not bad quotes.
Even more amazing, the Spyder is a Boxster S taken to an even higher level purity and performance. The Spyder is lighter, lower, more powerful, and a touch more hard core. It's no wonder that the mid-engine cars from Porsche are universally praised and remain a moving target for the competition.
The labels: entry level, baby Porsche, and the politically incorrect "chick's car" couldn't be further from the truth with the exception that, yes, women drive them too.
