Detroit Auto Show: Porsche Supercar to be Unveiled

Porsche announced they’ll be unveiling a new supercar this January at the Detroit Auto Show! The only detail Porsche has released is that it is closely related to the 918 Spyder concept from which it takes key components, including elements of its platform.

Porsche said: "Porsche will be giving a new model its world debut – and various other models their first showing in the USA. The show in the traditional venue of Detroit, nicknamed ‘Motor City’, is regarded as a leading international marketplace and forum for trends and opinions that is particularly relevant for the North American market. Porsche has been experiencing rapidly growing demand among its US customers over the past few months, especially for the new Panamera car line and the new generation of the Cayenne sporty off-roader."

Porsche Boxster and Cayman Receive 2011 AUTOMOBILE Magazine All-Star Award

Porsche has earned yet another prestigious AUTOMOBILE Magazine All-Star award. This is the eighth win for the Boxster and Cayman, which are among the top winners of all time.

Each year, the worldwide staff of editors, bureau chiefs and freelancers of AUTOMOBILE Magazine convene to drive and compare raw performance and pure enthusiast appeal of the various makes and models, to see which one of the contestants is “best in class” in any one of ten different categories.

Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid Qualifies for Tax Credit

That’s right! The 2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid has been certified as being eligible for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Tax Credit as a Qualified Hybrid Motor Vehicle. If you buy a Cayenne S Hybrid by the end of the year or have already bought one, you qualify for a $1,800 tax credit on your 2010 taxes.

According to Porsche, “In the Cayenne model line the 'S' designation indicates a V8 under the hood. But the 'S' in the Cayenne S Hybrid name is there for a different reason – to identify the true performance character of this SUV's highly sophisticated parallel full hybrid system. With a combined power output of 380 horsepower from the supercharged V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, the Cayenne S Hybrid delivers performance nearly equal to the Cayenne S with its 400-horsepower V8 and fuel economy estimates that exceed those of the Cayenne with the V6 engine.”

They have decided to include their fans names on a special Porsche model that will be displayed at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Cool, huh? The Porsche will be shown in February 2011.

Porsche: Decoded

Porsche Cars North America is partnering with the History Channel to do its first full-season integration with a TV show! That’s right! Porsche is partnering with History Channel’s “Brad Meltzer’s Decoded.” The show’s storyline is about solving mysteries and conspiracies. The cast will drive the 2011 Cayenne S around to find clues, etc.

“Porsche: Decoded”, a mini-series, tells stories of the Porsche brand and vehicles, predominantly the 2011 Cayenne S. It will air during commercial breaks on History.com. “Following the thematic drift of the show, the vignettes tease out the origins of the Porsche crest logo, the start of Porsche vehicle design, and a hybrid car concept form 1900 designed by founder Dr. Ferdinand Porsche,” according to the History Channel.

Porsche 911 Heaven

Thanks to everyone that came out last night to “The Gateway to Luxury” event at the Million Air Houston at the William P. Hobby Airport. Hundreds of attendees came out and enjoyed live music and complimentary gourmet bites and desserts. Porsche’s Investment in Efficiency

Porsche recently announced that it has plans to tremendously upgrade its research and development center in Weissach, Germany. They are investing roughly $200 million in a highly advanced wind tunnel, a state-of-the-art design center and a pioneering electronics integration center.

"The new system will help us to maintain Porsche's top position in the fields of aerodynamics and design and to further extend our lead. Outstanding design with optimal aerodynamic efficiency has always been classic Porsche strongholds," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, Porsche AG Board of Management Member for Research and Development. 

The system will not only be used for Porsche's internal developments, but will also be extensively available for Porsche customer development, since it offers direct access from the adjacent design studio, and separate entrances for the discrete completion of customer development projects. Above all, a new studio will offer more space for the Porsche designers, who are involved from the very earliest concept phase of each vehicle development process. Due to extended tasks, increased capacities are urgently required in the Weissach center of competence for sports car construction.

“This spatial proximity is a major advantage,” said Dürheimer. “The close interaction of our suppliers' various electrical system/electronics experts and colleagues from related specialist fields during development will contribute significantly to the success of our work, particularly in the case of electronics, which now play a role in virtually every vehicle component."
