Porsche Considers Selling Diesel Vehicles in US

Porsche is considering selling diesel versions of its Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan in the United States, its biggest market.  The demand for fuel-efficient vehicles has grown quickly, even among luxury car buyers, and a diesel would help Porsche meet that demand.  "We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the US this year. The Porsche Cayenne is Hot!

Porsche Cars of North America announced that sales this past October rose by 61% from the previous year, mostly due to the strong sales of the Porsche Cayenne. Wow! Porsche sold 2,647 vehicles this past October, which is up from 1,642 from the previous October. Nearly all models in Porsche’s portfolio enjoyed increases during the month of October. Leading Porsche, 1,139 Cayennes were sold in October and Panamera sales nearly doubled from last October to 747.

Porsche Panamera Exceeds Sales Expectations

We are thrilled to announce that the Porsche Panamera exceeded sales expectations worldwide after one year! No one really knew what to expect since this was Porsche’s first luxury four door sedan. However, that didn’t stop consumers for going wild over the new four-door Porsche Panamera. Porsche has sold 22,518 2010 Panameras worldwide with about 6,188 of those being sold in the United States. The Panamera has grabbed 13% of the luxury class market and that number is still growing! The Porsche Panamera Road Trip

Daniel Terdiman, a reporter for CNET, put the new 2010 Porsche Panamera to the test. He drove for more than 5,200 miles over the course of 6 weeks around the East Coast in the new Panamera 4S. The Porsche 4S is all-wheel drive, and can do zero to 60 in 4.8 seconds. Wow! “Often when I’d walk back to wherever it was parked, I’d find people circling it, checking it out from every angle. And it didn’t stop when I was driving. More times than I can remember, I’d look over and see someone snapping pictures in the lane next to me,” comments Terdiman. The Panamera drives extraordinarily smooth and is quite comfortable and the acceleration was always swift. The Panamera included an awesome navigation system, iPod hookup, and extremely powerful engine. Overall, Terdiman loved driving a Porsche Panamera on Road Trip 2010. 2011 Porsche Panamera Announced with Brake Energy Recuperation System

Starting in August, Porsche will offer a new brake engery recovery system in all of the V8 Panamera models. By generating electrical power from the brakes, the energy recovery system is able to charge the car's battery. As a result, the technology also keeps the alternator current from having to charge the battery, which also provides more energy to the engine. Working in unison with the option of low roll-resistance, all-season 19-inch tires, the Panamera Turbo's fuel economy drops down to 11.3 liters/100km. Product comparisons

In the July issue or Car and Driver three sports cars: a Lotus Evora, a Corvette GS, and a Cayman S were compared. Shockingly, the Cayman S had a glaring flaw, brake fade. This was a "press car" with 6,000 miles.
I have seen some blatant examples of Porsche models tortured by the press. One was a GT3 with no tread on the tires after 1,000 miles. Another was a 911 Turbo with warped rotors. Evidently there are journalists with neither driving skills nor respect for machinery. It has been said that at 7/10 one can experience a car's attributes; at 9/10 one can only concentrate on survival.
Each Porsche model must pass a rigorous test of accelerating to 90% of its top speed and brake to 62 mph 25 times in a row without experiencing any fade. Porsche's brakes are legendary.
PCNA needs to inspect these cars a little more closely. While they're at it, they should examine the way some these cars are equipped. You may recall the $130,855 Panamera S without sport chrono in the March 2010 Car and Driver.
By the way, both the Cayman S and the Panamera S won their comparisons. However, like college football, running up the score does help in the rankings.
