Porsche’s Plug-In Hybrid 918 Spyder Goes from Dream to Reality in 3.1 Seconds and is Now Available for Purchase from Porsche of North Houston

We at Porsche of North Houston are proud to announce that we are now taking orders for the amazing 918 Spyder. After outstanding customer response to the concept car first shown at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche is bringing to reality the next generation Porsche super car that marries unique plug-in hybrid technology and outstanding performance in a visually stunning and purely Porsche package.

To ensure the 918 Spyder’s worldwide exclusivity, Porsche will produce no more than 918 examples of the model based on past Porche designs like the Carrera GT super sports car and the legendary 917 and highly successful RS Spyder race cars.

The 918 Spyder will combine super high performance with very low fuel consumption and emissions and is powered by a high-revving, mid-mounted V8 engine with capacity of more than 4.0 liters and producing at least 500 horsepower. Two electric motors, one each on the front and rear axles, together will provide an additional 218 horsepower achieving zero to 60 mph in about 3.1 seconds on its way to an estimated top track speed of 199 mph. This unique configuration will offer an innovative, variable all-wheel drive system with independent control of the drive forces on both axles. The 918 Spyder electrical energy will be stored in a state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that can be recharged from a standard household outlet allowing for an anticipated combined fuel consumption of just 112 g/mile.

And as an added bonus, customers who order the 918 Spyder also have the opportunity to acquire one of only 918 special-edition 911 Turbo S Coupes or Cabriolets.

Detroit Auto Show: Porsche Supercar to be Unveiled

Porsche announced they’ll be unveiling a new supercar this January at the Detroit Auto Show! The only detail Porsche has released is that it is closely related to the 918 Spyder concept from which it takes key components, including elements of its platform.

Porsche said: "Porsche will be giving a new model its world debut – and various other models their first showing in the USA. The show in the traditional venue of Detroit, nicknamed ‘Motor City’, is regarded as a leading international marketplace and forum for trends and opinions that is particularly relevant for the North American market. Porsche has been experiencing rapidly growing demand among its US customers over the past few months, especially for the new Panamera car line and the new generation of the Cayenne sporty off-roader."

Be sure to stay tuned to see the unveiling of the Porsche supercar. In the meantime, click here to look through our extensive Porsche inventory.

Porsche 918 Hybrid

This past April, Porsche’s development chief, Wolfgang Duerheimer, said the company would put the 918 Hybrid into production if enough potential customers showed interest in buying one. According to confidential sources, more than enough people have made non-binding expressions of interest, and why not? The car combines exceptional performance with incredible fuel economy and emissions and is now inching closer towards production. The 918 will do zero to 100 km/hr in less than 3.2 seconds and the drivetrain can be run in one of four modes: Eco, Hybrid, Sport, or Race. The Race mode uses features similar to the kinetic energy recovery systems seen in Formula 1. Amazingly, Porsche says the car has a top speed of 198 mph and will circle the Nurburgring in less than 7:30, all while maintaining a superb fuel consumption of 3 liters per 100 kilometers (78.4 mph.) We are eager to see this incredible car put into production!
