Facebook Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid is Easy to 'Like'

To commemorate its social media milestone of surpassing one million fans on Facebook, Porsche has created this special edition of 911 GT3 R Hybrid complete with the signatures of over 27,000 Porsche fans.  The car makes its North American debut this week at the New York Auto Show before it goes on display inside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.  Porsche's hybrid racer packs 480 horsepower from its 4.0-liter flat-six engine and is matched with two 80-hp electric motors. Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

After demonstrating its groundbreaking technology in Germany, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid will make its appearance in the USA and Asia. Porsche was invited to participate in the season final of the American Le Mans Series, which features the world’s fastest sport cars. It takes place in Atlanta on October 2nd at “Petit Le Mans.” The race is 1,000 miles or a maximum of 10 hours! A little over a month later, on November 7th, the Porsche 911 GT3 S Hybrid will be in Zhuhai, China at the season final of the new Le Mans International Cup lasting six hours. The Porsche 911 GT3 S Hybrid has two electric motors at the front axle. They both create 60 kilowatts to enhance the 480 horsepower normally-aspirated rear-engine. Click here to learn more. 911 GT3 Hybrid Will Run at ALMS Finale at Road Atlanta

The 911 GT3 R Hybrid showcased the potential of its groundbreaking technology at the Nürburgring 24-hour race and led the overall classification for more than eight hours during its 22 hours and 15 minute run. As a result of its stellar performance, the orange and white racer has received invitations to race in the US and Asia. Porsche will compete in the season finale of the American Le Mans Series, a race featuring the world’s fastest sports cars, as well as the ‘Petit Le Mans’ at Road Atlanta on October 2. Porsche Breaks Record at 2010 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

The annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb took place this weekend in Colorado and a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car smashed last year’s record in the Time Attack 2WD class. Driven by Jeff Zwart of Woody Creek, Colorado, the car completed the 12.42 mile course in 11:31:095, breaking the previous record by 38 seconds. Zwart not only broke the 2009 class record but took the car faster than all but five of the entire field – three Unlimited Class and two Open Wheels cars, all with 600-horsepower.
