Facebook Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid is Easy to 'Like'

To commemorate its social media milestone of surpassing one million fans on Facebook, Porsche has created this special edition of 911 GT3 R Hybrid complete with the signatures of over 27,000 Porsche fans.  The car makes its North American debut this week at the New York Auto Show before it goes on display inside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.  Porsche's hybrid racer packs 480 horsepower from its 4.0-liter flat-six engine and is matched with two 80-hp electric motors. 2011 New York Auto Show Preview

The Porsche Panamera is so popular these days that it’s hard to believe that Porsche is set to release the seventh model of the line at the New York Auto Show. The latest Panamera model is the Turbo S, and it is expected to be the most powerful version of the entire Panamera line-up. Best Movie with a Porsche in a Speaking Role: The 2006 animated classic Cars featured the show stealing sassy, winsome Sally Carrera, the blue Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe with the heart of gold, voiced to perfection by Bonnie Hunt.

US consumers rate Porsche as the highest-quality automobile according to Forbes Magazine.

Forbes averaged out scores of two J.D. Power's surveys -- one that rated consumer satisfaction on 2010 model cars after 90 days of ownership and one that rates the same after three years of ownership. They also factored in scores on quality from a survey done by automobile industry research firm ALG.  Porsche topped the list with an average score of 590.2.  “The perception of the quality of the mainstream is certainly a cut below the luxury brands," Eric Lyman, the director of residual values for the automotive analysis firm ALG, told Forbes.  "People expect that a luxury good has higher quality -- that's why it's considered a luxury good," Lyman said.  Click here to see what US consumers already know.

The Cayman S is considered by many to be the best-handling Porsche currently available but the all-new Cayman R has more power, is lowered by about an inch, loses about 100 pounds and adds the lightest wheels currently available on a production Porsche. Porsche Boxster + Vintage Volkswagen Bug = The Bugster

This car looks like a nicely restored, slightly modified Bug.  Up close, the enormous side vents, 18-inch wheels and Porsche dashboard hint at the secret.  This hybrid has custom fenders to properly cover its wider track and wheels, and  rides on a fully-adjustable suspension. The car was created by Siegfried Rudolf, an Austrian that restores and customizes Porsche and Volkswagen cars.  Rudolf got the idea after parking his restored Beetle next to his wife's Porsche Boxster and noted a striking similarity in their wheelbases. After countless hours with a measuring tape, a Sawzall and a welder, Rudolf had the Bugster, a mid-engined 270-horsepower 1973 VW Beetle. Check out the photos.

Porsche’s Plug-In Hybrid 918 Spyder Goes from Dream to Reality in 3.1 Seconds and is Now Available for Purchase from Porsche of North Houston

Check out Steve McQueen’s Porsche from “Le Mans”

The 1970 Porsche 911 S is a veteran of the silver screen, having been featured in the opening sequence of McQueen’s epic tribute to automobiles and motorsports, “Le Mans.”  The 911 was used as the actor’s personal car during the filming of “Le Mans” while he was living in a rented 30-room 15th century chateau in France. The car is also mentioned in the book, “Steve McQueen: The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon,” in a passage where the star takes a visiting Hollywood executive on a 100 mph ride through the French countryside.

Porsche Celebrates 25 Years of Custom Cars

25 years ago Porsche became the world's first car manufacturer to create a special customization department at its factory. The program, called Porsche Exclusive, allows customers to get a car from the factory with just about any personal detail and refinement they want.  To celebrate the program's silver anniversary the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany is showcasing the Exclusive's special skills and craftsmanship with a 25 years of Porsche Exclusive show running through May 1st.

Visitors will be able to see some of company's most unique and rare special models, including the Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6, which in 1997 was the first Porsche series production sports car to break the 186 mph barrier. Also on display is one of only two Porsche 911 Speedsters in the world, as well as a gold-colored Porsche 959 that was extensively modified for a member of an Arab royal family and which features, among other things, gold plated tailpipes. A book is being published in conjunction with the exhibit.

Porsche To Show 111-Year-Old Hybrid In Geneva

Porsche AG will show a version of the Semper Vivus, a hybrid car developed by company founder Dr. Ferdinand Porsche in 1900, at next week’s Geneva Motor Show. Porsches says it worked for four years at its Porsche Museum in Stuttgart to recreate the car.

The appearance of Semper Vivus (meaning “always alive”) at the show is meant to reflect what Porsche calls its “lengthy dedication to ground-breaking hybrid technology.” It coincides with the recent announcement that Porsche will build a hybrid version of its Panamera sedan to join its hybrid Cayenne SUV in the lineup.

911 Carrera GTS Launches at Chicago Auto Show

On Thursday, February 10, 2011, the 911 Carrera GTS was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show.  The message from the 911 Carrera GTS is clear and unmistakable: force, power and dynamics. With direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus, the upgraded 3.8-liter six-cylinder rear engine of the new 911 Carrera GTS generates 408 hp at 7300 rpm, 23 hp more than the 911 Carrera S.  But, without an increase in fuel consumption or emissions. This is not a contradiction, but a combination of dynamics and efficiency, of sportiness and everyday practicality.  Porsche calls it Porsche Intelligent Performance.

Porsche Unveils Trio of All Electric Boxsters

Porsche already has the hottest hybrid on the planet with its Porsche 918 Spyder, but what about a little something that forgoes gasoline altogether?  Now, it has that, too.  The iconic German automaker has just unveiled the first of the trio of the Boxster E's.  The prototype uses 240 electron-powered ponies from motors attached to front and rear axles to give it all-wheel-drive sure-footedness and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. It has a 29-kWh battery pack, which should give a solid 100 miles per charge.  Porsche will trial the triplets over the coming months.  No plans for a retail version have been mentioned, though it remains an eventual possibility considering CEO Matthias Müller's statement at the Porsche museum ceremony that electric mobility is the company's “central challenge.”

Porsche To Unveil New Hybrid

Porsche AG will stage the world premiere of a parallel full hybrid model at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The world premiere in Geneva is being complemented by the 918 RSR hybrid racing car concept, making its first public appearance in front of a European audience. The mid-engine coupé combines the design of the 918 Spyder with the technology of the 911 GT3 R hybrid racing car.

The V8 engine in the 918 RSR is a further development of the direct injection engine from the successful RS Spyder race car and now offers an output of 563 hp (420 kW) at 10,300 rpm in the 918 RSR. The electric motors on the two front wheels each contribute 75 kW to the peak drive power of 767 hp (572 kW). This additional power, which is generated during braking, is stored in an optimized flywheel accumulator.

Porsche Spotting Game on FourSquare

Porsche Cars USA is launching a social media game together with FourSquare. The game involves spotting a Porsche in Dallas during the NFL game between Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, and updating the location of that Porsche with its photo on FourSquare.  Once a Porsche is spotted a user takes a snapshot of the Porsche and uploads it to FourSquare with the hashtag “#Porsche”.  Porsche will feature the best photos in its “Porsche spotting at the big game” photo gallery on Facebook.  Click here for details on this cool venture.

Porsche 911 Black Edition

Porsche has announced a new version of the 911 called the Black Edition based on the 3.6-litre Carrera.  Most of the visible interior and exterior is black including the brake calipers.  Color contrast comes from the 19" forged alloy wheels taken from the 911 Turbo, along with the aluminum-look fascia strip, gearlever and air vents.  The Black Edition's standard equipment includes satellite navigation, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, rear parking sensors, cruise control, automatic wipers and auto-dimming door and interior mirrors.  Only 1911 Coupés and Cabriolets will be put on sale worldwide.  The Black Edition is set to be released later this year, in the meantime check out our selection of 911s by clicking here.
